The Big Sandy Little League has had sign ups and teams are being chosen. We are ready for a banner year. If you know of a child who wants to play ball this year, they are still accepting sign ups until March 24th. The sign up fee is $30 per child and there are funds available if a child wants to play, but family funds are limited. Contact Nancy Blackwell at 593-0837 or gena@bentoncountycable.net. Through our fund raising efforts over the last 2 years, we have been able to buy new equipment for every team, including bats, catching equipment, batting helmets etc. and in 2005 we raised enough to purchase a tarp for our little league field. These things are NOT cheap. It cost close to $1600 for our tarp which has been a tremendous help with keeping our schedules on track. We hardly ever have a cancelled game anymore because of weather!!!! We were also fortunate in raising enough money to buy new uniforms for our All Star team in 2005. They looked professional and represented Big Sandy very well in the all star tournament, said Nancy Blackwell. New officers of the BSLL are as follows: Scott Phifer, President John Perry, Vice President Secretary, Caron Melton Treasurer, Deanna Perry We will have our "spaghetti supper" at the senior center in Big Sandy Friday night the 24th of March and we are already planning another $100 grocery give away from the good folks at the Big Sandy Supermarket. They have been a huge help to the little league in donating groceries for our suppers and also for the grocery raffle. When you shop there, be sure to tell them how much we appreciate their efforsts to keep youth sports alive and well in the Big Sandy community. We are looking ahead to hopefully secure a grant next year to update our city park and ball field area with new restroom facilities. A new regulation softball field is in the works and we hope to have more news on that in the near future. Anyone wishing to donate funds to these projects, Please contact Scott Phifer or John Perry. We want to make our ball park and city park a safe and happy evioronment for all who visit. Look for some "new to us" playground equipment in the city park soon. Along with some city workers, little league parents and coaches are donating their time and efforts to see our park improved. The playground equipment has been donated to the city from the people who now own the Deerwood Park common area. The Big Sandy little league has a few spaces left in the outfield for business owners to advertise. A $125 donation to the little league will secure your ad in the outfield. This $125 fee for the first year is to have a sign made and then the fee is $50 for each year following. Hurry up, they could be going fast. Various businesses have been contacting the Web site administrators concerning advertising. The administrators said that the fee schedule for advertising on the Web site by businesses throughout Benton County is donation based and go to assist the Big Sandy Little League. You can also make donations in behalf of the Little League by going to the Bank of Camden – Big Sandy Branch located at 65 Main Street, Big Sandy, or at any location in Camden.
